This article was originally published in the July 1945 issue of
The Atlantic Monthly. The author speaks from the pre-dawn hours
of the information age and anticipates the components of the
emerging information/ communication technology. He envisions bold
leaps forward in the domain of information retrieval (a pursuit,
at that time, as yet unnamed):
"associative indexing".
