CDR Philip C. Donovan 1971-1973 |

Commander Philip C. DONOVAN, was born in Buffalo,
New York on January 4, 1932. He entered the U.S. Naval Academy
at Annapolis in 1950 and was commissioned upon graduation in
June 1954.
His first assignment was aboard USS Newport News (CA-148) as a Division Officer. In early 1957 he reported to USS John Paul Jones (DD-932) as Anti Submarine Warfare Officer, and later served as Weapons Officer. In 1959 Commander Donovan reported to the Commander, New York Naval Shipyard as his Aide. In September 1961 he returned to sea as Executive Officer aboard USS Thomas J. Gary (DER-326). His next assignment was in Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation in the Bureau of Ships in Washington, D.C. Commander Donovan was then assigned as a student in the Command and Staff course at the Naval War College. In 1966 ne reported to' USS Newman K. Perry (DD-883) as Executive Officer. In 1968 Commander Donovan reported to Commander U.S. Taiwan Defense Command in Taipei, serving As a assistant Chief Plans. Following a tour as a student at the Naval War College in the Naval Warfare course, Commander Donovan relieved Commander Matthew Faessel as Commanding Officer of the USS Charles P.Cecil(DD-835). Commander Donovan holds the Navy Commendation Medal with "Combat V", Achievement Medal and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the U.S. Naval Academy, and a Master of Science Degree in International Affairs from George Washington University. Commander Donovan is married to the former Frances Cornell Herger of Buffalo, New York. They have three children; Anne Elizabeth, Timothy John, and Susan Ann. |
