The Skipper       Commander Firnbach, a native of Arlington Heights, Illinois is a graduate of Loyola University, Chicago. He received his commission at U.S. Naval Officer Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island in Apri11962.

      His first assignment to USS Sirius (AF-60) was followed by service in USS Bellatrix (AF 62), USS C.S. Sperry (DD697), and USS GLENNON (DD840). In 1970 he took command of USS Swerve (MSO 495), followed by assignment to USS Barney (DDG6) as Executive Officer. Most recently, he completed a tour of duty as Chief Staff Officer, Destroyer Squadron Thirty- One. Ashore, following Intelligence Post Graduate School and the Armed Forces Staff College, he completed Washington, D.C. assignments within the Defense Intelligence Agency, and as a CNO Operations briefer in the Navy command Support Center (OP64),

      Commander Firnbach is married to the former Dorothy Comack of New York City. The Firnbachs have four children: Tracy, James, Jeanne and Kathleen.

      Following decommissioning, Commander Firnbach will be assigned to the Senior Course of InstructIon at the Naval War College. Newport, Rhode Island.
