CDR John N. Horrocks 1957-1959 |

LCDR Horrocks took command of the USS CHARLES P. CECIL (DDR-835) on August 17,1957 at Norfolk, VA.
Prior to relieving CDR B. H. Stough, Jr. as Commanding Officer, LCDR Horrocks had served as Executive Officer of the CECIL since August 28, 1956.
LCDR Horrocks was graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 1940 where he played varsity baseball and was a member of the Mask and Wig Club. He came on duty in 1942 as a V-2 Midshipman and transferred to the Regular Navy in 1946. After a year's dutyin the Aleutions, LCDR Horrocks was assigned to the USS BUNKER HILL (CVS-17) and was Officer of the Deck when the ship was struck by two Kamikaze planes during the Battle of Okinawa. He the served as Gunnery Officer on Board the USS SICILY (CVE-122). Following a tour of duty as Military Observer in Indonesia for the United Nations, he served on board the USS RICH (DDE-820) as Operations Officer and was graduated from the General Line School in 1951. He was then assigned as Staff Operations Officer for COMSERVRON FOUR and followed that with two years in Paris, France as Staff Pschological Warfare Officer, U. S. CINCEUR befor reporting to the CECIL. LCDR Horrocks, his wife and their five children presently reside at 7626 Newport Ave., Norfolk, VA. His twin daughters attend the College of William and Mary at Williamsburg, VA.
