To begin with he stated some important facts about the operation. The f= irst fact he mentioned was that one out of ten who receive the operation wil= l not live for one year. The death rate goes up 10% in each following year.=20= He said that between 2 to 3% die during the operation, which isn't to bad. T= hat seems high to me.=20 Many tests will be made to check me out to see if I'm in good enough shape=20= to survive the operation. My first appointment is set for 5 March. This is t= o be the MUGA (Multiple Gated Analysis Study). During this test they will be= looking to see how well my heart is pumping, look for weak areas in my hear= t, and it will test the effects of medicines I take on my heart. This is a t= est using radioactive material. I've had this done twice before and it is ve= ry simple. Other tests needed are breath test, vein test, and many blood pressure tests= on many areas of the body. They shouldn't be tough. I'll try not to have the operation before my teaching days in April and May,= on the Cuban missile crisis. The doctor said that recovery time is about th= ree months. That seems like a long time to me. Would like to hear comments from you. I haven't made my mind up yet, if I sh= ould the operation or forget it!
