NOTES

COMMANDING OFFICER's NOTE
As we finish up this cruise, I would like all the officers and men of
CECIL to think about one thing: SAFETY ON THE HIGHWAY.
We have finished a trip of some 52,000 miles with one serious accident
(FLEMING) and one near miss (STINNETTE); now is not the time to put yourself
out of commission, so:
     (1) Plan enougn time to complete your trip without haveing to break all
     the speed laws.
     (2) Remember that you have been off the highway for a long time so
allow yourself a few hours to get back in practice.
     (3) Do not drive too long at one time --- take a coffee break or get
     some rest.
     (4) You have been riding a ship for 7 months at slow speeds. Your
ability to estimate distance and speeds is not as good as it was --
particularly on free-ways. You'll be worse than a farmer who never
drove anything but a wagon. So leave enough distance between you and
the car in front ---- and don't plan on being able to stop on a dime.
     (5) If you're late getting back --- call the ship; don't try to make up
the time. Your phone call will be more pleasant than one from the
     hospital or morgue.

1. Liberty will commence at 1000 and expire at 07:30 daily for the remainder
of the week.

2. Beginning 0700 26 April the after shower will be secured for painting.
Four days is needed to paint and properly dry the showers for the crew's
use. They will reopen 0600 30 April 67. Your cooperation is a must during
this period.

3. All personnel going on leave are reminded to either leave a self-
addressed stamped envelope or their name with SMITH DK2 if they desire pay
on May 4th or 18th.
