Thanks so much to Herve, Pat, Tony and Betty for a wonderful week in San Diego! Your personal touches – Pat’s special trail chex mix, the sailor table favors on the night of the banquet, the cakes, and your hospitality will long be remembered by all those who attended!
We missed many of you this year – Captain Rozier, Bob Ahrens and Dusty, the Fryoux’s, the Broussard’s, the Belshaw’s, the Robert’s, the Rosenberg’s, the Swanekamp’s, the Paige’s, too many to mention. You remain in our thoughts.
Our annual auction was a success, bringing in over $780. The highest bid was for $63 – a golf club that was donated by Bill Elliott. We also had a banner year for the ship’s store! The Chief and Eunice took in over $1,000 - isn’t that wonderful?
The annual memorial this year was held at the Fort Roescrans National Cemetery, overlooking San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean. There are over 93,000 veterans and their spouses there, and room is currently being made to accommodate more. When you visit this National Cemetery, you understand why so many have chosen this as a final resting place. This was another difficult year for us all as we remembered those we lost:

Frank Cauley, Cecil Cochran, Rocky Ferragine, John R. Hannon, Charles Hill, Andrew Koopman, George Kingston, Arthur Mitchell, Horace Mervine, Jerald Wolf, And Carol Vernooy and Diane Russell (spouses of Bill Vernooy and John Russell)

Mr. Rob Wallace, President of San Diego Inbound Tours donated the memorial wreath for the service this year. Our special thanks to him for his attention the whole week.

Greg and Rosanne Wells have also agreed to take over the ship’s store after next year’s reunion. (since Greg will also be helping with the 2007 reunion!)
Fall River is slated for the 2007 reunion and Pensacola for the 2008 reunion. John and Helen Engdahl of Wilmington, MA volunteered to host the reunion in Fall River, with Ed Crowley and Greg Wells assisting them.
The speaker at the banquet was Commander James J. Housinger, skipper of the USS John Paul Jones DDG-nnn who spoke on terrorism. There was a great band and their vocalist to entertain us after dinner (Betty Delanzo’s relative!). Thanks to them, we had our own ‘dancing with the stars’. It was a wonderful evening.
