Things I Think I Know This Week About RiverPlace

One.  Thank goodness for Jim Barnes and George Hall.  They did an excellent job at the recent planning board meeting.  Common sense is a valuable asset.

Two.  Last week’s letter to the editor from Ross Hergenhahn opened with “What if a small group of Hudson, New Hampshire residents are making a mistake?”  Nice letter, unfortunately you neglected to state that you are employed by a local real estate agency.

Three.  Six degrees of W/S.  There is a popular pop culture game called “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.”  In this game you choose an actor and try to join them to Kevin Bacon in the least amount of moves.  Well, I think we can play that game too.  A few weeks ago attorney Leonard wrote a letter in support of RiverPlace.  Now he is employed by the Friel family which has a deal with W/S Development.  I give him a “2.”  Mr. Hergenhahn works for a real estate agency that will benefit from W/S Development; I’ll give him a “3.”

Four.  Public input.  Many townspeople have asked for an opportunity to vote on RiverPlace.  Based on our current laws we may never get the chance.  However we could ask for a Non Binding Referendum.  This would allow our elected officials to get an idea of how the people feel.

Five.  Congratulations to Selectman Jasper for his recent election to chairman.  The next day he was quoted “If RiverPlace is built, my personal opinion is that we absolutely have to have that road,” Jasper said.  “Our roads alone can’t handle that kind of traffic.”  Remember the expenditure of town funds to build roads is something the townspeople should vote on.
