The following Email text was received after the recent Planning Board meeting conducted at the Hudson Community Center on May 23, 2007. The focus of the meeting was to discuss the future of the Green Meadows property after the recent W/S pullout and demise of the RiverPlace project. This message is just one attendee's opinion of what transpired at this meeting. Hat's off to Sue Gosselin for this report.

Hello all-

I went to the meeting and left in a state of crankiness.

I went home and wrote the following...

The Friels. A good neighbor?

At Wednesday night's town meeting, Mr. Leonard (representative for the Friel family) felt attacked and uncomfortable by this question. You sir, may have felt as though you were being set-up and/or trapped by this question. you were. Well, Mr. Leonard, now you know how many of us feel- attacked, uncomfortable, and trapped.

It was stated at great length that the Friel family NOW wants to work to find the best solution for the town of Hudson. That in fact, they have learned much from the "W/S experience" and propose to continue to be "a good neighbor" as they have been for near-on fifty years.

I found it most interesting to hear this proclamation. Let us take a look at what WE have also learned from the "W/S experience" in regards to a good neighbor.

One that chose a developer to best represent them who.

  • was completely out of touch with the people of Hudson.
  • did not talk to all of the neighborhoods that were to be affected.
  • criticized the abutters for not supporting the project.
  • changed the conditions of the project depending on the audience.
  • clearly did not consider anyone from NH when building the roadways.
  • did not listen to most basic concerns and needs of Hudson.
  • wasted hours on repetitive sales presentations.
  • mockingly called the townsfolk a "bunch of chicken farmers".

Finally, near the end of the discussion, two major displays of insanity occurred. These are but mere examples of the lack of communication that continues to cast doubts and fears about this project.

  • I understood that the board requested to see a "revised" master plan before they talk about road development. Yet, at the next workshop, the road development will be discussed.
  • It was asked if the town's consult had the correct and complete data regarding the traffic study. At the same time, within five feet of each other, Mr. Leonard stated "yes" and the consult shook his head "no".

You know what they say about good neighbors? Anyone selling a 400-acre fence?
