Biographical Summary

Tony was born in Winchester on August 20, 1933, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Francesco Cirurso. Tony had two older sisters, Angie and Marion, who still reside in Winchester. This hardworking family of five made their home on Swanton Street in Winchester and owned and operated a neighborhood grocery store that was attached to the house they called home. In addition to running the grocery store, Francesco worked at a full time job to support his family.

As soon as Tony was able to read, write, and make change, he worked in the store. Up until the start of WW2, the store as open from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, seven days a week. The store was truly a family run operation, father, mother, Tony, Angie, and Marion each helping out to service the customers. During WW2, they got to relax on Sunday because the store was closed. I asked Tony what hours he worked in the store and he told me, "Whenever I wasn't in school or doing my homework."
