people [index] | John Glenn

[The following is from the Purdue Creative Thinking Program # 27.]

Summary

Glenn was sent into orbit on February 20, 1962, at 9:47 a.m. The only difficulty presented during his flight was created by the heat shield on the capsule. Scientists at Cape Kennedy began receiving signals that the heat shield was loose. It remained on the capsule, however, for the full flight and Glenn came down safely.
